Living across the street from a school gives me a chance to observe kids walking to school or being dropped off by parents on either the side of the street by the school or on the other side requiring them to cross the street. On Wednesday morning I saw two little Chinese kids walking to school. They were obviously brother and sister. One was maybe six or so and the other five. They both had on big backpacks that were wider than they were. As they walked they were holding hands and having a fun visit with each other. It was really fun to watch them. You could tell that they liked being with each other. I was so excited to see them and so touched by their kindness to each other that I hurried to get my camera but I was too late.
Not more than three minutes later I saw a brother and sister, maybe 10 and eight, that got out of a car on the side on the street across from the school. I am sure their mom said to the older brother: hold her hand while you cross the street." Well, he held her wrist and as soon as they got onto the sidewalk she yanked her arm away and walked off. I was surprised! I think I was shocked to see the stark difference before the sets of siblings. So a strange thing and you can tell that it bothered me because I would take time to post about it.
Makes me hope and pray that my sweet grandkids are like those first sweet set of siblings!
