We went walking Wednesday night on Takapuna Beach. With the changing of the seasons the tides are very different. It was way far out but not far enough to be able to walk around the point. Not sure if that is going to prohibit us from finishing our walks or not but anyway. It was pretty cool. As we walked I saw this orange thing mostly buried in the sand. I dug around it and uncovered this most beautiful shell. I really wanted to keep it. What a find it was. When I turned it over I saw that it was still being used as a dwelling for some sea creature. So all I did was take photos.
And then to give it perspective and allow you to see what the size really was my faithful companion put his foot by it.
Oh it would have looked so nice on my table of shells! But since the first rule of beach combing is to never take anything alive.....I left it behind.
